Live: Russia accuses Ukraine of shelling Kakhovka dam rescuers

Russia says Ukraine is shelling rescue workers in occupied areas of Kherson after the Nova Kakhovka dam collapsed, a day after Kyiv accused Moscow of the same alleged war crime.

Ukraine says at least three people have died due to the collapse of the vast dam in Kherson, as Russia-backed authorities in affected occupied regions report at least five deaths.

At least one person was killed and eight were wounded due to Russian shelling during evacuation efforts amid widespread flooding in Kherson, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General said.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has visited flooded areas amid warnings of the dangers posed by floating mines, the spread of disease and hazardous chemicals in the floodwaters.

Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said Russian forces inflicted heavy damages and repelled a large-scale overnight attempt by Ukrainian forces to break through the Zaporizhzhia region, Russia’s RIA news agency reported.
